Going back to school isn’t easy for a lot of kids, but it’s particularly hard for kids who are attending a brand new school for the first time. Being the new kid is just plain hard.
Most of the time, I prefer to write lighthearted or funny poems, but I wrote this back-to-school poem because I’ve just seen too many kids struggle.
The fresh start of a brand new school year is the perfect time to open a dialogue to encourage all students to be inclusive, and not just to the new kid, but also the kids who struggle to fit in. A poem can be a vehicle to get kids talking.
The Newest Kid is available as a FREEBIE.
On a more lighthearted note, here’s another back-to-school poem I like to introduce that was written over a century ago by well-known writer/poet, Robert Louis Stevenson.
